I’m Alex Kaplan, a wedding photographer and videographer based in New Milford, NJ, serving Northern NJ, NYC, and the Hudson Valley. For over 30 years, I’ve helped couples enjoy their day without feeling rushed, while I quietly capture the real moments, natural portraits, and genuine emotions you’ll still love decades from now.
Some of my favorite photographs from a wedding weekend aren’t taken at the wedding. They happen at the gatherings around it, when nobody is watching a timeline and everyone is simply glad to be in one room.
That was the mood on Saturday, October 17, 2026, when Evan and Elizabeth’s family and friends gathered for a Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn wedding rehearsal party in New Milford, NJ. One of our associate photographers covered the evening, and the gallery that came back is warm, unhurried and full of family.
If you’d like to see how we approach the wedding day itself, our wedding photography services page walks you through it, and you’ll find more real weddings and events on our blog.
If you’ve never been, Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn is a restaurant on Old New Bridge Road in New Milford. For this New Milford, NJ wedding rehearsal, the room did half the storytelling on its own.
Strands of tiny white lights hang from the canopy ceiling, woven through white flower garlands and greenery. They turn every background into a soft, golden glow.

Round tables dressed in white linen fill the room, set with candles, wine glasses and low arrangements of hydrangeas and roses. Large windows wrap the space, so the string lights outside read as warm dots behind the guests.
For a photographer, a room like this is a gift after dark. You’ll see the same thing in the receptions in our wedding portfolio: warm, layered light flatters people far more than a bright, flat room ever will.

What I love most about this gallery is how many generations show up in it. Guests of every age stand arm in arm with Evan, and nobody looks stiff or posed into place.

There’s a frame where eight people break into laughter around a guest holding the microphone. Nobody is looking at the camera, and that’s exactly why it works.

Rehearsal parties give families something the wedding day rarely does: time. On the wedding day, most relatives get a few minutes in a carefully planned group photo, and then the schedule moves on.
The best candid rehearsal party photos come from that extra breathing room. Evan with a few friends, two couples posing together, the big table photo where the whole crowd squeezes in around one round table.

Personal touches tell you who a couple is, and this room had plenty of them. A few of the strongest frames in the gallery don’t have a single face looking at the lens.
A white sheet cake read “Congratulations” across the top, trimmed with sky-blue sugar roses. Beside it stood a framed photo of the couple walking hand in hand under the trees.

White roses, hydrangeas and bright yellow mums filled a tall glass vase, with a single votive glowing on the tablecloth. It’s a simple setup, and it photographs beautifully.

Then there was the life-size cardboard cutout of the couple. One guest rested a hand on its arm for a portrait, as if the couple were standing right there.

The candid smiles fill in the rest. In one frame, a full table turns toward the speaker, half of them mid-laugh, with Evan grinning in the middle of it all.

Photographing a wedding rehearsal party gives you relaxed portraits of the people you love before the pressure of the wedding day begins. Guests are unhurried, families have time to mingle, and the speeches, inside jokes and small details of the weekend are preserved instead of fading once the main celebration takes over.
After more than 30 years behind the camera, I can tell you the wedding day moves fast. Even with a careful timeline, some people only appear in one formal group shot, and some conversations never happen in front of a lens.
That’s the real case for wedding rehearsal party photography in NJ. Coverage at a rehearsal party or welcome event gives you:
The right amount of rehearsal party coverage depends on your guest list, your schedule and the moments you want photographed. For this Sanzari’s New Bridge Inn wedding rehearsal party, three hours of coverage, from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, allowed our photographer to capture the setting, the moments at the microphone and the family portraits.
One practical tip: before the party, give your photographer a short list of the people who matter most. A rehearsal party moves quietly, and that list makes sure nobody important slips through without a portrait.
If you’re planning a rehearsal party, welcome event or any gathering around your wedding in Northern New Jersey, it deserves the same care as the big day. These are the photographs families tend to reach for years later.

About Me — But Really, It’s About You
The most meaningful wedding photos never come from stiff poses.
They come from the quiet laugh you didn’t think anyone saw.
The look on your partner’s face during the vows.
The warmth of your people all around you.
I’ve been doing this for over 30 years — and I still get nervous before every wedding.
Not because I’m uncertain, but because I know how much it matters.
After photographing hundreds of weddings over the past few decades, I’ve learned something simple:
The best photos happen when you feel fully present.
That’s why I work calmly, behind the scenes — guiding when it helps, then stepping back when the real moments unfold. I’m always anticipating what’s next, so you never have to think about a thing.
My goal is simple: to help you relax, feel confident, and walk away with photos that feel like you — not a filtered version of someone else’s idea of perfect.
Most of my couples say the same thing:
“We’re so glad we didn’t have to worry.”
