I’m Alex Kaplan, a wedding photographer and videographer based in New Milford, NJ, serving Northern NJ, NYC, and the Hudson Valley. For over 30 years, I’ve helped couples enjoy their day without feeling rushed — while I quietly capture the real moments, natural portraits, and genuine emotions you’ll still love decades from now.

As a seasoned wedding photographer with over 30 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless moments of joy and union. The recent wedding of Ruby and William at the picturesque Historic Smithville Inn was no exception. This event was a beautiful blend of rustic charm and heartfelt romance, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
Ruby and William chose the Historic Smithville Inn, a venue known for its enchanting ambiance and stunning backdrops, perfect for wedding photography. The inn, with its cozy yet elegant setting, offers a variety of picturesque spots, from lush gardens to rustic architectural elements, which are ideal for capturing every moment.
The day began with preparations in separate suites for the bride and groom, filled with anticipation and excitement. Ruby’s suite buzzed with activity as she and her bridesmaids got ready. The atmosphere was light and joyful, with every detail meticulously planned, from Ruby’s heirloom dress—elegantly modernized from her mother’s original—to the unique floral arrangements provided by Nature’s Gift Flower Shop.
William and his groomsmen enjoyed a relaxed morning at the inn’s Leeds Room. The camaraderie and laughter among the men, coupled with the thoughtful details of their attire from Kilt Rental USA, underscored the significance of the day. Capturing these moments, from the quiet reflection of the groom to the spirited exchanges with his groomsmen, was a highlight of the day.
Held outdoors by the lake, the ceremony was a breathtaking scene. As a photographer, I had the honor of capturing the first look between Ruby and her father, a moment filled with emotion and beauty. The couple’s vows, framed by the natural beauty of Smithville and the delicate floral arrangements, created a serene and romantic atmosphere.
The reception was a lively celebration with heartfelt speeches, vibrant dancing, and moments of laughter and tears. Dance Party DJ’s filled the evening with music that got everyone on their feet, from timeless classics to modern hits, ensuring a festive atmosphere throughout the night.
As a photographer, my goal is to capture the essence of each moment. This includes the small but significant details like the wedding bands from Northern Royal and the exquisite hair and makeup by Debra Beach and Lindsey. Each element played a crucial role in making the day special, and my photography aims to reflect the beauty and effort put into choosing them.
Ruby and William’s wedding at the Historic Smithville Inn was a beautiful testament to their love and the beginning of their lifelong journey together. As a photographer, being part of their special day, capturing each smile, tear, and laugh, was a profound reminder of the power of love and the importance of celebrating it.
For those planning their big day, the Historic Smithville Inn, with its charm and numerous amenities, provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding experience. And for couples looking for a photographer who not only captures but cherishes your special moments, feel free to reach out.

About Me — But Really, It’s About You
The most meaningful wedding photos never come from stiff poses.
They come from the quiet laugh you didn’t think anyone saw.
The look on your partner’s face during the vows.
The warmth of your people all around you.
I’ve been doing this for over 30 years — and I still get nervous before every wedding.
Not because I’m uncertain, but because I know how much it matters.
After photographing hundreds of weddings over the past few decades, I’ve learned something simple:
The best photos happen when you feel fully present.
That’s why I work calmly, behind the scenes — guiding when it helps, then stepping back when the real moments unfold. I’m always anticipating what’s next, so you never have to think about a thing.
My goal is simple: to help you relax, feel confident, and walk away with photos that feel like you — not a filtered version of someone else’s idea of perfect.
Most of my couples say the same thing:
“We’re so glad we didn’t have to worry.”
