Giovana and Rob’s The Grand Totowa Wedding | Northern NJ Wedding Photographer

December 16, 2025

Some weddings have one big emotional moment. Giovana and Rob’s May celebration at The Grand in Totowa had about fifteen.

Started with Giovana doing separate first looks—first with her brother Jonathan, then with her dad Rocco. If you’ve never witnessed a father see his daughter in her wedding dress for the first time, you’re missing one of life’s most genuine moments. Rocco’s face said everything words couldn’t.

Getting Ready at Hampton Inn Fairfield

The morning started at Hampton Inn & Suites in Fairfield, where Giovana was surrounded by her bridesmaids in matching blush robes. The energy in that getting ready room was exactly what you want—laughter, excitement, a little bit of nervous anticipation, and champagne flowing.

Giovana’s dress was absolutely stunning—illusion lace bodice with delicate floral appliqués, beading that caught the light perfectly, and a flowing tulle skirt. But here’s what made this morning special: those two pre-ceremony first looks. First with her brother Jonathan, then with her dad Rocco.

The bouquet carried its own story—white roses with baby’s breath, wrapped with memorial charms honoring family members who couldn’t be there. These personal touches are what turn details into memories.

The Grand Totowa Makes Everything Flow

One thing I always tell couples: venue logistics matter more than you think. The Grand in Totowa handles this beautifully. Giovana and Rob got ready at the nearby Hampton Inn, then shuttled over to the venue where everything else happened—portraits, outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in the Crystal Ballroom. No stress about timing, no rushing between locations across town.

While Giovana was with her bridesmaids, Rob was getting portraits with his parents Karen and John at The Grand’s signature fountain backdrop. That stone wall with diamond accents and the water features—it’s become one of the venue’s most recognizable spots, and for good reason.

His sister Alison (who served as Best Woman) joined for family portraits along with the three adorable ring bearers—Luciano, Vinny, and Santino—who absolutely nailed their job later during the ceremony.

Ceremony Details That Mattered

When Giovana arrived with her six bridesmaids and flower girl Mattie, the bridal party portraits at The Grand’s outdoor ceremony space were perfection. Those blush dresses against the venue’s architecture, the natural light, the anticipation—you could feel it building.

Rocco seeing his daughter in her full bridal glory—that moment when a father realizes his little girl is getting married—it hit different. The red Japanese maple in the background added this perfect seasonal touch to their portrait.

Giovana’s crystal hair piece caught the light beautifully, and her confidence in these portraits showed exactly how ready she was for this moment.

A Ceremony Full of Real Emotion

When ceremony time arrived at 4:30pm, Rob walked down the aisle with both parents—Karen and John—flanking him. The outdoor ceremony space at The Grand is gorgeous with its covered pavilion, stone backdrop, and those dramatic diamond-shaped accent pieces.

From the guests’ perspective—100 people gathered on white chairs, that dramatic stone wall backdrop, tall floral arrangements flanking the ceremony space—The Grand’s outdoor setup is designed to photograph beautifully from every angle.

The ceremony itself was intimate and personal. Their officiant kept things warm and meaningful. When they exchanged vows against that massive stone wall, you could hear the emotion in both their voices.

During the ceremony, this blessing moment with confetti created an unexpectedly magical visual. Some moments you can’t plan—they just happen.

And then—the first kiss. That moment when everything they’d planned for months becomes real.

The crowd erupted. You can see it in this shot—pure joy from their 100 guests, the bridal party cheering, family members tearing up. This is what weddings are supposed to feel like.

Even the youngest guests were captivated. This little one watching the ceremony with complete focus—kids always tell you when something is genuinely special.

After the ceremony, we gathered both families at the fountain for formal portraits. Rob’s parents Karen and John, Giovana’s parents Lourdes and Rocco, Best Woman Alison, Maid of Honor Kristen—everyone who made this day possible, captured in one frame.

After the ceremony, we took advantage of The Grand’s gorgeous grounds for couple portraits. The property has multiple photo locations, and that red Japanese maple created this perfect seasonal backdrop.

Reception Magic in the Crystal Ballroom

The Crystal Ballroom at The Grand lives up to its name—elegant chandeliers, crisp white linens, and that perfect combination of sophistication and warmth. Giovana and Rob’s reception was filled with personal touches that made it uniquely theirs.

Their first dance was everything—Rob holding Giovana close, her dress flowing, that look they gave each other. The bridesmaids in blush and the elegant ballroom setting created the perfect backdrop for this moment.

Throughout the reception, these spontaneous bursts of joy kept happening. Giovana’s reaction here—pure, unfiltered happiness. This is why documentary photography matters. You can’t pose this.

The speeches from Maid of Honor Kristen and Best Woman Alison hit hard. These two bridesmaids’ reactions captured the emotional weight of the toasts perfectly.

The father-daughter dance brought everything full circle. Rocco, who walked his daughter down the aisle just hours earlier, now dancing with her as a married woman. Giovana’s face buried in her dad’s shoulder—this is what love looks like across generations.

Instead of a traditional bouquet toss, Giovana walked straight to her mom Lourdes and handed her the bouquet. No toss, no competition—just intention. Later, her parents did an anniversary dance, celebrating their own marriage while watching their daughter start hers.

The bridal party brought the energy all day—from getting ready through the ceremony to this victorious celebration shot at the fountain. Six bridesmaids in blush, five groomsmen in grey, three ring bearers in black, and one flower girl who absolutely crushed it.

Why The Grand Totowa Works

This Northern New Jersey venue really delivers for couples who want sophistication without stuffiness. Giovana and Rob had their outdoor ceremony, indoor cocktail hour (with an outdoor option), and ballroom reception all in one location. The venue’s team, coordinated by Mark, kept everything running smoothly so the couple could actually enjoy their day instead of stressing about logistics.

From Giovana’s emotional first looks with her brother and father to the confetti-filled ceremony blessing, to that packed dance floor in the Crystal Ballroom—every moment of this May celebration was authentic, joyful, and completely worth capturing. This is exactly what wedding photography at The Grand Totowa should look like.

The Calm Behind the Camera

About Me — But Really, It’s About You

The most meaningful wedding photos never come from stiff poses.
They come from the quiet laugh you didn’t think anyone saw.
The look on your partner’s face during the vows.
The warmth of your people all around you.

I’ve been doing this for over 30 years — and I still get nervous before every wedding.
Not because I’m uncertain, but because I know how much it matters.

After photographing hundreds of weddings over the past few decades, I’ve learned something simple:
The best photos happen when you feel fully present.

That’s why I work calmly, behind the scenes — guiding when it helps, then stepping back when the real moments unfold. I’m always anticipating what’s next, so you never have to think about a thing.

My goal is simple: to help you relax, feel confident, and walk away with photos that feel like you — not a filtered version of someone else’s idea of perfect.

Most of my couples say the same thing:
We’re so glad we didn’t have to worry.”
