Karam + Mohammed’s Fall Wedding at North Hudson Park & Weehawken Waterfront | NJ Wedding Photographer
November 27, 2025

I’m Alex Kaplan, a wedding photographer and videographer based in New Milford, NJ, serving Northern NJ, NYC, and the Hudson Valley. For over 30 years, I’ve helped couples enjoy their day without feeling rushed — while I quietly capture the real moments, natural portraits, and genuine emotions you’ll still love decades from now.

The veil caught the wind just as a flock of birds crossed the sunset. Karam’s laughter echoed across the Weehawken waterfront while Manhattan glowed behind them. This is what November weddings in New Jersey should feel like – that perfect moment when nature, light, and emotion align.
When Karam first reached out, she knew exactly what she wanted: artistic wedding photography that made the most of the NYC skyline and the natural beauty along the Hudson River. North Hudson Park and the Weehawken waterfront delivered beyond expectations for their intimate celebration at Waterside Restaurant.
November gave us everything. The fall foliage glowed gold and amber throughout North Hudson Park. The afternoon light was crisp and clear, making the Manhattan skyline look like it was painted across the horizon.
Karam had worried about rain, but we got one of those rare November days that photographers dream about.
The couple chose a first look, which meant we had time to explore, to breathe, to create without rushing. This is when the magic happens – when there’s space for both the planned artistic shots and those unexpected moments that become your favorites.

North Hudson Park stretches along the Hudson River with mature trees, walking paths, and those skyline views that make New Jersey wedding photography unbeatable. It’s not as crowded as Hoboken or Jersey City parks, which means more freedom to create.
We started in the wooded areas where fall was showing off. The lace detailing on Karam’s gown caught the filtered light beautifully – that texture photographed like a dream against the natural backdrop.
Meanwhile, Mohammed looked sharp in his classic black tuxedo, and together they were absolutely stunning. But what made these images work was them – the way they moved together, the genuine laughter, the quiet moments between poses.
When couples trust the direction while staying natural, that’s when you get both the magazine-worthy shots and the real emotion.

One of the most dramatic locations we found was a stone staircase with beautiful architectural details. The structure provided a perfect frame for showcasing Karam’s flowing veil.
These are the kinds of artistic wedding photos that Karam specifically mentioned wanting – images that use the environment creatively while highlighting the natural beauty of the wedding day.

Additionally, the wind cooperated perfectly, lifting Karam’s cathedral-length veil and creating movement in the photos. You can plan the location and the pose, but when nature adds that perfect element – you just need to be ready.
After exploring North Hudson Park, we headed to the Weehawken waterfront where their reception at Waterside Restaurant would take place. This location is absolutely unbeatable for NYC skyline views.
You get the full panorama of Manhattan across the Hudson River, and depending on the time of day, the light can be magical.

The architectural monuments along the waterfront provided interesting foreground elements that framed the couple beautifully against the city skyline. I particularly loved using the symmetry of the stone pillars to create balanced, striking compositions.
Interestingly, a couple walking by actually stopped to watch us work and applauded when we nailed one of the dip shots – those spontaneous moments of connection remind you why this work matters.
As we continued shooting along the waterfront, the light continued to change and improve. Then one of those moments happened – as I photographed Karam and Mohammed in silhouette against the sunset, a flock of birds flew through the frame.
I positioned them so the setting sun backlit the veil, creating that ethereal glow while the birds added an element no one could have scripted. Pure magic.

This image perfectly encapsulates what Karam wanted – artistic, making the most of the skyline and beautiful nature. The silhouette style gives it a timeless quality, while the veil catching the wind and the birds add movement and life to the composition.

Waterside Restaurant sits right on River Road in Weehawken with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing Manhattan across the Hudson. For intimate weddings, it’s perfect – elegant atmosphere, unbeatable views, and minutes from North Hudson Park for portraits. The waterfront area itself offers architectural elements, open space, and that skyline that never gets old to photograph.
Their reception brought together 50 guests for an evening of celebration, but what made the day flow so smoothly started hours earlier with the planning.
Seven hours of coverage. A structured timeline that prioritized golden hour. A couple who trusted me to direct while staying natural. This combination is what creates galleries that couples treasure for decades.
What struck me most was how completely present they were with each other. The laughter was real. The quiet moments were intimate. The joy was everywhere.
When couples are this comfortable together, my job becomes less about “creating” and more about capturing what’s already there.
This is what I mean by real emotion, genuine connection, moments that matter. We created those artistic shots Karam envisioned, yes. But we also captured who they are – the way they look at each other when they think no one’s watching.
Karam’s biggest worry? Rain. November in New Jersey is unpredictable. We planned for indoor alternatives at Waterside Restaurant if needed. But we got lucky – a gorgeous fall day with perfect light. Always better to have backup options and not need them.
Karam’s lace gown with that cathedral-length veil. Soft pink and white bouquet with eucalyptus. The first look that gave us time to create. Fifty guests keeping it intimate. And two families who trusted me with their day – Nezar Al-Shaikhly and Ahmed Sattar referred Karam to me, and that trust means everything.
If you’re considering North Hudson Park and Weehawken waterfront for your wedding photography, here’s what you need to know:
When to Visit: Fall (September-November) offers stunning foliage, while spring (April-May) brings beautiful blooms. Both seasons provide comfortable temperatures and gorgeous natural backdrops.
Best Light: Golden hour provides the most flattering light year-round. For November weddings, that means late afternoon – perfect for sunset skyline shots.
Logistics: Street parking is available along the waterfront and throughout the park. Check with Hudson County about permit requirements for professional photography. The area is generally less crowded than nearby Hoboken or Jersey City parks.
Why It Works: You get incredible variety within walking distance – wooded areas with natural foliage, architectural elements, waterfront views, and those unbeatable NYC skyline backdrops.
The difference isn’t just showing up with a camera. It’s knowing how light works in these locations. When to shoot where. How to help couples feel natural in front of the camera. Where to stand for that skyline shot. What makes a moment worth capturing.
That knowledge comes from photographing hundreds of weddings across Northern New Jersey, NYC, and the Hudson Valley. From understanding what makes the difference between good photos and images you’ll treasure forever.

About Me — But Really, It’s About You
The most meaningful wedding photos never come from stiff poses.
They come from the quiet laugh you didn’t think anyone saw.
The look on your partner’s face during the vows.
The warmth of your people all around you.
I’ve been doing this for over 30 years — and I still get nervous before every wedding.
Not because I’m uncertain, but because I know how much it matters.
After photographing hundreds of weddings over the past few decades, I’ve learned something simple:
The best photos happen when you feel fully present.
That’s why I work calmly, behind the scenes — guiding when it helps, then stepping back when the real moments unfold. I’m always anticipating what’s next, so you never have to think about a thing.
My goal is simple: to help you relax, feel confident, and walk away with photos that feel like you — not a filtered version of someone else’s idea of perfect.
Most of my couples say the same thing:
“We’re so glad we didn’t have to worry.”
Alex made everything feel effortless — and the photos are incredible.”
Free parts of our entire wedding.
“One of the most stress"
Alex captured a version of me that actually felt confident and real.”

“I’ve always hated how"
