I’m Alex Kaplan, a wedding photographer and videographer based in New Milford, NJ, serving Northern NJ, NYC, and the Hudson Valley. For over 30 years, I’ve helped couples enjoy their day without feeling rushed — while I quietly capture the real moments, natural portraits, and genuine emotions you’ll still love decades from now.
After photographing at Rockleigh Country Club for three decades, I still find new moments here. The venue’s classical architecture gives you options everywhere you turn. Kristin and Zachary knew what they wanted and trusted the venue to deliver it.
I started with Kristin in one of the bridal suites. Her bridesmaids wore champagne-colored gowns with beaded illusion necklines, and the whole vibe was relaxed. The light coming through the windows was soft and even, which meant I could work without flash and just document what was happening.

Kristin’s dress was a classic ball gown- lace bodice, off-shoulder straps, intricate train. She paired it with a crystal tiara. When you’re working with a dress like this at a venue like Rockleigh, you’re thinking about scale. That grand staircase was perfect for the full silhouette.

If you’ve photographed at Rockleigh Country Club, you know the staircase is iconic. Double curved railings, ornate ironwork, multiple chandeliers, that arched ceiling with architectural details everywhere.
But here’s the thing- it’s not just about the backdrop. It’s about patience. I wait for the bride to find her rhythm on those steps, let her interact with her dress naturally, and then the moment happens. That’s when you get the shot that doesn’t look posed.

Zachary got ready in his own suite- classic black tuxedo, bow tie, white rose boutonniere. Simple, timeless, and exactly right for the venue. When he saw Kristin for the first time, I didn’t direct anything. His reaction was genuine, and that’s exactly what you want to capture.

The ceremony was in Rockleigh’s ballroom. Kristin walked down the aisle with both parents, and I positioned myself to catch Zachary’s face. That’s the shot. Not the walk itself- the reaction.

After the ceremony, we moved outside to the colonnade and gardens. This is where Rockleigh really shines—classical columns, manicured grounds, and late afternoon light filtering through the trees.

I gave the wedding party minimal direction- just positioned them in good light and let them interact.

One advantage of Rockleigh Country Club is the variety. We moved from formal gardens to the fountain area, each location offering different light and composition options.

I watch for small details. The ring shot, the way they held each other- these aren’t posed. They’re observed.

As the sun started setting, we used the garden lamp posts and natural light together. This is when I slow everything down. The timeline can wait.

We came back inside for formal portraits. Rockleigh’s interior spaces have rich architectural details and warm lighting. You just need to know where to position people.

Some moments work better in black and white. When you remove color, you’re left with emotion and composition.

The ballroom at Rockleigh is designed for celebrations- crystal chandeliers, architectural columns, marble dance floor. The room transitions from cocktail hour’s natural light to warm evening glow.

During the first dance, I moved around them slowly, watching for moments when they forgot about the room full of people.

I’ve photographed here for three decades. Couples choose it because the indoor and outdoor options mean you’re never weather-dependent. The classical design doesn’t date. And the staff knows how to run events, which means I focus on photography instead of logistics.
The Bergen County location makes it accessible from Northern New Jersey, NYC, and the Hudson Valley.
Kristin and Zachary’s wedding showcased why this venue works. From morning preparation through the staircase portraits, the gardens, and the ballroom- every location offered something different.
My approach is documentary-style. I’m looking for authentic moments, not manufactured poses. After 30+ years, that hasn’t changed.
Thanks to Kristin and Zachary.

About Me — But Really, It’s About You
The most meaningful wedding photos never come from stiff poses.
They come from the quiet laugh you didn’t think anyone saw.
The look on your partner’s face during the vows.
The warmth of your people all around you.
I’ve been doing this for over 30 years — and I still get nervous before every wedding.
Not because I’m uncertain, but because I know how much it matters.
After photographing hundreds of weddings over the past few decades, I’ve learned something simple:
The best photos happen when you feel fully present.
That’s why I work calmly, behind the scenes — guiding when it helps, then stepping back when the real moments unfold. I’m always anticipating what’s next, so you never have to think about a thing.
My goal is simple: to help you relax, feel confident, and walk away with photos that feel like you — not a filtered version of someone else’s idea of perfect.
Most of my couples say the same thing:
“We’re so glad we didn’t have to worry.”
Alex made everything feel effortless — and the photos are incredible.”
Free parts of our entire wedding.
“One of the most stress"
Alex captured a version of me that actually felt confident and real.”

“I’ve always hated how"
it’s all there. Looking through our gallery feels like reliving the day.”
